ABOUT JOANNA MAGRS
Joanna joined the firm in 2021 after graduating from university with a first class honours degree and integrated Master of Laws. Joanna completed the Legal Practice Course alongside her Masters degree prior to joining the firm and started her training contract in November 2022, she gained experience across all areas of the firm before qualifying as a Solicitor in 2024.
Joanna joined our Private Client Team immediately upon qualification and now specialises in probate and estate administration. Over the past 4 years, Joanna has handled a wide range of probate matters, including the administration of both straightforward and complex estates. This includes estates with high-value assets, business interests, agricultural property, and international elements.
Joanna has experience in obtaining grants of probate and letters of administration, managing intestate estates, and advising clients on inheritance tax (IHT) planning and mitigation strategies. Joanna is well-versed in navigating the complexities of estates involving trusts, such as discretionary trusts and life interest trusts.
Joanna has also worked closely with executors, trustees, and beneficiaries to ensure that estates are administered efficiently and in compliance with the law. This includes preparing deeds of variation, advising on the use of Agricultural Property Relief (APR) and Business Property Relief (BPR), and assisting with lifetime gifting strategies to reduce IHT liabilities.
With a client-focused approach, Joanna is committed to providing clear, practical advice and supporting clients through what can often be a challenging and emotional process. Whether assisting with contested probate matters, complex tax issues, or ensuring the smooth distribution of assets, Joanna is dedicated to achieving the best possible outcome for clients.
Joanna enjoys all things fitness, travelling and walking her dog in the countryside. Joanna is a committee member of the Harrogate and North Yorkshire Junior Lawyers Division and hopes to use her role to support Junior lawyers through organising events and providing networking opportunities.
